KABANC Foundation's 2018 Bar Study Scholarship


The Korean American Bar Association of Northern California (KABANC) is pleased to announce the 2018 Bar Study Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded by the KABANC Foundation to a qualified class of 2018 or 2019 law student or graduate from a law school in Northern California planning to take the July 2018, February 2019, or July 2019 California Bar Examination. The scholarship amount will be up to $5,000.

Eligible applicants must:

  1. Meet the requirements for taking and plan to take the July 2018, February 2019, or July 2019 California Bar Examination;
  2. Currently attend or have recently graduated from an accredited law school in Northern California, or otherwise have a demonstrated connection to Northern California;
  3. Be a paid member of KABANC (applicant may join KABANC at the same time as applying for this scholarship);
  4. Be available for a phone or in-person interview on a weekend in August 2018 (exact date to be confirmed); and
  5. Be available to accept the award at KABANC’s Annual Gala on September 21, 2018.

Selection factors include, but are not limited to, the following criteria:

  1. Academic achievement, work experience, leadership activities, and post law school goals;
  2. Demonstrated leadership and a commitment to community service, particularly to the Korean and Korean-American community and other diverse communities; and
  3. Financial need.
  4. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in public interest or public service in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The qualified scholarship recipient will be selected and notified by the KABANC Foundation Scholarship Committee by early September 2018, and will be introduced at KABANC’s Annual Gala on September 21, 2018 at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco.

Application materials:

  1. Completed application;
  2. Current law school transcript (unofficial transcript acceptable, but recipient must provide official transcript before receiving award);
  3. Two references; and
  4. Resume.
